Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the level of knowledge about delirium, experience of assessment tool use, and educational needs about delirium among nurses. This study was a cross sectional descriptive study. Participants were 153 nurses. Data were collected from 3 hospitals using questionnaries. Data were gathered from march 10 to April 10, 2011. The data were analyzed with the SPSS/Win 12.0 program. Data were summariszed using descriptive statistics.
The average score for nurses¡¯ knowledge about the delirium was 60, of a total score of 100. Only 7 nurses among participants had ever used the delirium tool. More than half of the participant (58.8%) responded that they needed education about intervention and management of delirium.
It is important to provide education on delirium to nurses. Continuing educational program focusing on detecting and managing patients with delirium would be helpful for nurses taking care of patiens with delirium.
